Contextual-Based E-Book to Develop Science Process Skills through Reaction Rate Learning

This research aims to produce a contextual-based 4STMD e-book on reaction rate material to develop science process skills through testing the e-books characteristics using the 4STMD stages, feasibility testing, and comprehensibility testing of the e-book. The method used in this study is Design, Development, and Evaluation (DDE), with the 4STMD method employed for teaching material development. The participants included 2 chemistry education experts to review the e-books characteristics at each 4STMD stage, 60 student 11th-grade high school in Bandung City for the characterization and comprehensibility tests, and 3 high school chemistry teachers for the feasibility test. The characteristics of the e-book were determined based on the 4STMD stages. In the selection stage, alignment was achieved between CP, TP, ATP, and concept labels with standard concept explanations, as well as contextual and pedagogical descriptions. The structuring stage produced a concept map, a macro structure, and three levels of representation regarding reaction rates. The characterization stage identified 3 difficult texts to be reduced in the didactic reduction stage. The results of the feasibility test across 5 aspects (content, design, presentation, graphics, and KPS) categorized the e-book as “very feasible” with an average of 98.87%. The comprehensibility test yielded an average of 97%, with the e-book categorized as self learning material.
